Show me state becomes a hot spot

Reading Time: < 1 minute

I am talking about the attention it gets from the presidential candidates, their supporters and the media. We already had the biggest event for Obama (100,000 people) showed up on Saturday at Gateway Arch. Today Monday Oct. 20 we had McCain, he spoke in St. Charles in the morning and will go to Kansas city this afternoon. Last but not least, President Clinton, will speak at Kirkwood high school tonight.

Here is a Google map of Kirkwood high if you are interested.

The big news media, CBS Katie Kouric, CNN John King, are also in St. Louis today. Finanlly the show me state and St. Louis got some national attention 🙂

Not endorsing Obama, but it’s interesting to hear a voice from a regular Joe who attended the event. Here is a link if the player below does not work. It is estimated 100,000 people attended the event.

Why Fazoli is so crowded?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

(Update July 17) I went to Fazoli this evening to take some food home. Surprisingly there are many people again. Another sign average people are feeling the pinch in this recession.

(Original) Fazoli has been my favorite lunch places for a while. Recently it got more and more crowded during lunch time. This seems strange because in current economy recession, one would think people would bring their own lunches more and eat less outside. So, what’s the reason?

Olympics is coming

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Amid all the craziness on oil, stock market and iPhone, yesterday I realized the Beijing Olympics is coming in 4 weeks, and it seems I can not go there for the event. Fortunately I got a piece of Olympics since 2004. In the picture below, at the left is a Coca Cola limited edition can made for torch relay in St. Louis (June 17 2004), at the right is a can features Beijing Olympics logo. Note Coca Cola is Olympics global sponsor (the highest level).

Maybe those politicians who said boycotting the opening ceremony can honor their words, and let me use their seats 🙂

How to ride the MetroBus?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

This morning I need to drop my car at repair shop for the day. Not wanting to walk back, or disturb my friend, I decided to ride the bus. I did some research about the bus last night. I used the trip finder to find the route, schedule. I tried it: from “Olive Blvd at Lindbergh Blvd”, to “Olive Blvd at Tempo Dr.” It gives me the time, I found 8:04 AM or 8:45 AM bus will fit me.

Things worked out well as I expected. Shortly after I drop the car, I waited at the Olive and Manson, and I saw the 8:04 AM bus coming. I got on the bus and paid $1.75. The ride took about 10 minutes. To my surprise, there are quite a few people riding the bus.

I understand right now it’s still impractical for me to take the bus to work. But what if everyone started to ride the bus, amid the rising fuel price? As the Addidas ad says “Impossible is nothing”. Maybe this thing is possible.

Flood

Reading Time: < 1 minute

It seems the market is not the only thing that is testing our mind/heart/nerve/will, the midwest flood has also caused substantial demage to WI, IA, IL and the Show Me state. Couple days ago the levee at Hanibal broke. Don’t know if the Mark Twain museum there has been demaged?

I am back to St. Louis

Bread and gas
Panera officially raised the price of Asiago cheese bagel, from 97 cents to $1.25, which is expected as I read it from news couple weeks ago. The regular unleaded gas is $3.999 in STL. Cheaper than Salt Lake city, but more expensive than Jackson, WY.

Some random thoughts about the trip
Chevlet Impala is good. Dodge Avenager is a piece of xxx.

Mount Washburn and Teton pass (WY-Idaho route 22) are difficult to drive. Perhaps also because I am getting older?

The news I missed
Tim Russert: the number and profile of people attended a journalist’s funeral and memorial service speaks the volume of his legacy. Quote Tim “go to other people’s funeral, otherwise they won’t come to yours”. I will write more about Tim later.

Anheuser-Busch Inbev merger (STLToday): now Buffett is into play because he has 5% stake in A-B. I believe he was incidentally pulled in, because he bought the A-B stock couple years ago mostly out of valution, not speculation on M&A.

InBev come to get Anheuser-Busch?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

These days the talk of Belgium/Brazil beer maker potential takeover of Anheuser-Busch (NYSE:BUD) is getting St. Louisians attention. Note Anheuser-Busch is not just a large beer maker based in STL, it’s also has roots in the city and the community.

Olympics torch relay at Saint Louis in 2004

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Four years ago, I had the opportunity to witness the Olympics torch relay here in St. Louis. The city was chosen because it hosted the year 1904 Olympics here, the first Olympics in the US.
