I got it in email. The Seattle’s Best Coffee is opening stores in the Borders Creve Coeur and South county stores (it already opened in Borders Chesterfield and Brentwood). Here is the link for coupon.

As you may know, Starbucks also started in Seattle in 1970s.

Starbucks Stock and China Plan

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I mean the stocks (SBUX), not the latte. I believe the “so-so” same store sales number for the Q1 is the main reason for the recent drop. The stock is still not cheap by looking at PE (37), with projected rev/earning growth at about 20%. But this is Starbucks, normally they don’t go on sale. Near term, I believe SBUX is very much relying on the developed countries (a.k.a, US) for most of its revenue. For instance, in last 6 months I saw they opening up some new stores (some with drive through) in St. Louis and other midwest cities.

Consumer Series I: Gui Zhou Mao Tai

Reading Time: 2 minutes

(Update Apr 30) I went to Carrefour to buy Maotai, it’s out. I noticed Maotai has some low end products now (Maotai Chun instead of Guizhou Maotai). The Shanghai No. 1 Food Store across the street does carry Mao Tai, but it charges for 525 Yuan (Carrefour price was 438). According to Carrefour associates, the Maotai was out for couple months now. This is not surprising because I heard some distributors will pay several months in advance to get the Maotai. Hot stuff, isn’t it?

Dripped coffee only, available 10 AM to noon Friday March 16 in participating stores in China, as I understand from this Yahoo news people in US already enjoyed it on March 15. Actually I heard it from my coworker first. Please don’t pass on to the people work in Cloud 9, as I don’t like wait in long line 🙂

Coffee at McDonald and Starbucks

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Call it gourmet coffee, premium coffee, or designer coffee, whichever way you want to call it. But I have seen the “Gourmet Coffee” bulletin board put up by McDonald to make fun of Starbucks’ price. I also noticed Starbucks is adding “drive through” windows and open new locations like crazy lately. All these, according to Todd Sullivan’s value play blog, is kind of related…

Separately, a short time ago I heard KFC and McDonald are creating “drive through” stores in China. So are we in “car and caffeine driven society” now?

Starbucks in Forbidden City Beijing

Reading Time: < 1 minute

There are lots of talk about the Starbucks store in Forbidden City in Beijing these days. It started in Chinese demestic media, and now it speads all over the world (tonight I saw it on BBC). I happened to take a picture of that Starbucks store during my 2005 visit to Beijing. Personally I also felt it’s in appropriate to have a Starbucks inside the forbidden city. I think they can move the store outside.
